Fibreglass Care

Fibreglass Care

Our composites team carefully cut, prepare, sand, and finish every fibreglass body to a high standard. This attention to detail ensures a smooth, consistent finish, excellent durability, and a clean, professional appearance that lasts.

To help maintain your trailer’s appearance and condition over time, please see our fibreglass care and maintenance tips below.

To care for your fibreglass trailer, follow these tips:

Regular Maintenance

Wash your trailer regularly using a pH-neutral, gelcoat-safe wash and wax. We recommend using a product with the highest possible wax content to build up a protective layer and maintain gloss and finish over time.

Avoid Harsh Cleaners

Do not use acidic, alkaline, ammonia-based cleaners, or TFR (Traffic Film Remover). These products will strip protective wax layers, dull the surface, and reduce long-term protection.

Waxing

Use a high-quality wax or ceramic coating to protect against UV damage and oxidation. Waxing should be carried out at least once a year, and ideally more regularly to maintain protection and shine.

Protect from the Sun

Keeping your trailer out of prolonged direct sunlight will help preserve the finish. DO NOT USE A CARAVAN OR TRAILER COVER, as covers can trap heat and moisture, particularly in summer. Excess heat build-up can damage or deform both the gelcoat surface and the underlying polyester composite structure over time.

Address Damage Promptly

If minor damage occurs, temporarily cover the area with duct tape to prevent water ingress. Arrange for a proper gelcoat repair as soon as possible to avoid further deterioration.

What happens at handover?

We provide a friendly, unhurried handover to ensure you are confident using your trailer.

I have never towed a trailer like this before, how will this affect my driving?

Towing requires smoother acceleration, increased braking distances, and wider turning. Take time to familiarise yourself.

How should I clean my fibreglass body?

Use a pH-neutral wash and wax with high wax content.

Can I use traffic film remover (TFR)?

No. TFR removes protective wax layers and can damage the finish.

Which upgrades are DIY-fit only?

Some accessories and upgrades are supplied as DIY-fit items to keep costs down, particularly on Lite models.

Is there a dedicated support section on the website?

Yes.

Can businesses reclaim VAT?

Yes, subject to HMRC rules.

How should I position the car inside the trailer & what should the nose weight be?

Position the vehicle so the trailer sits level when hitched and the correct nose weight is achieved.

What should I do if the body is damaged?

Temporarily seal the area and arrange a proper gelcoat repair as soon as possible.

Are Eco-Trailer trailers built in the UK?

Yes. All Eco-Trailer enclosed trailers are designed, engineered, and built in-house at our Teesside facility.

Can the trailer be branded or liveried?
